Day Out to London

Our WI had a day-out in London on 19 June. We first visited Eltham Palace, a lovely building that once was the boyhood home of Henry VIII. It was restored in the art deco tradition of the early 1900s in 1930, later served to house British troops in WWII, and today is managed by English Heritage. Its location makes it a beautiful site for viewing the London skyline. After visiting the house, we went to lunch in Greenwich, where we also saw the restored Cutty Sark. We then boarded a tour boat at Greenwich docks and had a wonderful cruise on the Thames, past many iconic landmarks including the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, the London skyline, and St. Paul’s Cathedral. We docked at Westminster to catch the coach home. Although the weather was grey, cool, and a bit damp, our spirits were not! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
